Dear Makedon45, Melnik is still part of the larger geographical region of Macedonia, as it's located in Blagoevgrad Province (known as Pirin Macedonia, the part of Macedonia on the territory of modern Bulgaria). After its reincorporation into Bulgaria (of which is has been part numerous times druring the Middle Ages), it didn't somehow leave the region. Therefore, I am reverting your edits. Neither are they correct nor appropriate. → Тодор Божинов / Todor Bozhinov → Talk 10:43, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Before removing my contribution in the article you should consider that there are many articles in english wikipedia where bulgarians write their point of view about many greek towns and villages... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Geotol (talkcontribs) 15:29, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why removing? On the contrary, information from a reliable non-Bulgarian source (referenced) was added to it. --Lantonov (talk) 13:40, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Μελένικο

[edit]

I wonder if the Greek name for the town should be left as it is, as an alternate official name. I doubt that anywhere in the official Bulgarian administrative registers there is such entry at present. Historically, in the town there was a sizeable Greek population which left in 1913 but in Thessaloniki there was a sizeable Bulgarian population, too, which called the town Солун. And yet Солун is listed way down only as historic name. If we go tit-for-tat, Μελένικο should also go down only as a historic name. --Lantonov (talk) 14:54, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have nothing against having the Greek name in the intro: it's relevant, and the place is not reserved only for official names: see Szentendre or something like that. The main issue is to persuade the Greek contributors that Bulgarian names are relevant to most places in Greek Macedonia and deserve to be mentioned as well. Ok, agreed. Hopefully, it might even help tourism. --Lantonov (talk) 16:34, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
